During this diploma, you’ll learn and develop high levels of proficiency in Medical Terminology, Leadership and Communication Skills and Office Administration. 
This credential would be valued in the following jobs: -

Ward Clerk, Medical Administrator, Medical Secretary, Hospital/Lab/Pharmacy Technician, Healthcare Assistant, Clinical Coder/Medical Summariser, Medical Rep, Pharmaceutical Rep, medical law professional, medical photographer, ambulance team member or those looking to start their nursing career

On successful completion of the diploma, you’ll be able to prove to employers that you really do understand this world and that you have relevant skills that will make you a strong team player within the medical profession. You’ll also have the opportunity to achieve the City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Medical Terminology qualification (additional home study is recommended).

This diploma is made up of six core courses: - 

  • Medical Terminology
  • Computer Keyboard Skills or Keyboard Speed Development
  • Effective Business Communication or Communication at Work
  • Microsoft Word*
  • Microsoft Excel*
  • Microsoft Outlook

You then choose an additional three courses from a list of electives to suit your requirements. 

* Depending on your existing skill level it may be possible to study the Expert course as an alternative.

The guideline learning time for the Medical Office Diploma is 150 hours flexi-study or 5 weeks full-time.

Our Medical Office Diploma has courses which can be accessed online, via our distance learning portal and courses which you will need to study in one of our centres. 

This means that you have the flexibility to study our Medical Office Diploma in different ways:

  • In centre, with our friendly course advisors available for support and guidance as and when you need it.
  • At home or from work – with support via email or telephone during working hours.
  • On a blended mix – in-centre for the modules you need help with, at home or from work for those you are gliding through.

Once you’ve decided to go ahead, all you’ll need to do is contact your nearest Pitman Training centre that offers and supports our distance learning platform, and they will arrange for you to have an induction to show you around the system and talk you through how our online training works. After this, you can learn in your own time and at your own speed, but with the knowledge you have support at hand if required.
