Executive PA Diploma - Sandy Loureiro
Having recently moved from Portugal to the UK, I found it difficult to apply for jobs as I didn’t feel I had enough experience.
Luckily, I came across Pitman Training through an advert in the Basingstoke newspaper and decided to do the Executive PA Diploma which covered subjects such as the Microsoft Office 2003 to Expert level .
I had never done computer training before but I must say, that I really enjoyed the self paced method of learning as it is flexible, and enabled me to progress at my own pace and work around any personal commitments.
The course has a wide range of useful and relevant information that can be applied to any type of job, plus the workbooks which are supplied to the students are very helpful for further reference. The trainers at the centre are extremely friendly, accommodating and always available to give assistance or advice.
The training has helped give me a lot of the practical knowledge I needed, like audio/touch typing and shorthand, but more importantly it gave me confidence in myself and the ability to go out and get a job. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Pitman and I would recommend it to anyone interested in gaining first class administrative skills.
Medical Secretary Diploma - Tracey Cederstrom
I decided to study for my Medical Secretary Diploma while working for myself and being around while my daughter finished her final year at school.
With a view to embarking on a new career after having been a part time worker and mum for the past 16 years it was a bit scary.
I was introduced to Monica at Pitman's, in whom I found the answers to all my questions, even the trivial ones. Not being the most confident of people it was easy to ask questions and not feel embarrassed as I was put at ease by Monica's warm, friendly approach.
The course was extremely informative giving excellent audio tuition as well as first hand help and advice from Monica and the team at Pitman's. All the subjects are very up to date, in fact some were only updated a week before I took them.
Having completed my course with a Distinction in my Diploma as well as OCR level III qualifications, which I was encouraged to obtain, I was so hooked that I went back to Pitman's in Basingstoke and took a further course in Legal Secretarial skills. This course was fantastic as it took me through case studies and gave a good basic grounding and insight.
Overall I have found the whole experience an enjoyable one, the courses are easy to understand and interactive, which is a bonus when learning the Microsoft Office 2003 packages as you get instant results.
I would thoroughly recommend this way of learning, certainly if like me you have been out of the working environment for a while and need the confidence to return. With the Pitman courses you decide what pace you work at, how and when you attend but you are also rewarded with on going achievements as you pass each stage of the course.
Microsoft Office Plus Diploma - Sally Lewis - Packaging STM, Eli Lilly
I am a working mother of two and have a husband who also works longs hours. This course has been extremely flexible causing minimum disruption to my outside life.
The tutors are friendly and knowledgeable and you are learning in a very relaxed atmosphere. It's nothing like being in a classroom. All in all I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning new skills but does not have the opportunity to do a full time college course.
Excel 2003 - John Brewer
I have worked for Eli Lilly for over 30 years, most of the time in manufacturing, running, cleaning and setting up machinery. So it was a surprise when I had won a course with Pitman Training.
At the time I thought they had picked the wrong person, I hardly use the computer at home. When I went to see Monica at Pitman Training I was apprehensive of what happens next. We sat down in her office and discussed my options. I chose Microsoft Office Excel 2003 with Monica's help.
You learn at your own pace, listening to the commentary, if you have a problem Monica and her staff are there to help you and in my case that was quite a lot! The training centre itself is a quiet and relaxing place to learn, sometimes you feel that you are alone, but there could be 3 or 4 people studying at the same time.
Monica herself always greets you when you turn up, asking how you are feeling today. Just a nice social chit-chat, a relaxing start to studying and learning. Monica and her staff are there to encourage and help you as you learn.
All I have done through my working life is take the odd internal course when needed. Taking this course has helped me show more interest and opened my eyes to other things, which could be beneficial to my future.
