The radio’s blaring, it’s dark and cold outside, you’ve a feeling of dread inside. Then something clicks – it’s Saturday, hooray! Yes, the holidays might seem like a dim and distant memory already, and 'Blue Monday' might have hit you hard yesterday.
Maybe the Christmas and New Year break left you refreshed and raring to get back to work and that feeling hasn’t worn off, or maybe not...?! You might have decided that 2011 is THE year you’ll get that job, or make a change and follow your heart into a dream career and bright new future?
Either way – or if you’re somewhere in between – we reckon you’re not alone. We’ve been keeping our eyes and ears open over the last week and here are a few comments we’ve overheard or spotted on the ‘Twittersphere’ and Facebook:
“Can’t sleep, really can’t believe it’s already time to go back to work already. Ugh.”
“Have enjoyed this break a bit too much – I was even hoping I might get the flu so I could avoid the office for a few more days, now that’s not a good sign, is it?”
“Back to it then, no more bank holidays until April, great. Am actually quite chuffed about the Royal Wedding now for an extra day off. Cheers Wills and Kate!
“Woo hoo, work tomorrow, I can’t wait! Alarm set, outfit all laid out ready, I’m so excited it feels like the first day of school all over again. Yippee!”
OK, we may have made that last one up!
The fact is, very often, a job is a job; it’s how (most of us) pay our way and it’s called work for a reason. But that doesn’t mean you should have that feeling of dread about returning to work after a holiday, or at any other time of the year for that matter. We’ve all had our ‘moments’ when we’ve felt like jacking it all in and setting up a cup cake shop or dreaming about what we’d do if we won the lottery, but if 2011 is the year for a new start or change in direction then we can help.
