The award-winning West End musical, Avenue Q, has been touring the country recently and brings with it some hilarious, close-to- the- bone, dialogue and songs. What is key to this hit is the way the characters’ lives intertwine with their collective desire to make something of their lives. Something that will strike a chord with us all.
The thought that we may not have achieved what we set out to do when we were young is something that many of us can relate to. We will have all, at some point, thought about doing something amazing, or life-changing, but - whether it be through personal circumstances or lack of confidence and skills - we are simply doing what we can to make ends meet and have a well-balanced life.
Like the characters in Avenue Q, we are all full of aspiration, and no matter how old you are you can feel incredibly lost if you haven’t managed to fulfil your lifelong childhood dream.
Have you seen Avenue Q? What did you think to it? Did it strike a chord with you? Which of the characters’ stories did you most relate to? We’d love to know...
Our recent competition - run via our Facebook page – was all about tapping into this thought and we were thrilled to have so many responses. Many of them made us smile – sometimes in a wistful way – as we read about those of you who wanted to be astronauts, postmen, zookeepers, train drivers and ballerinas.
Our winner, though, was one that just made us smile about the innocence and excitement we had as children...Rachel Blundy wanted to be an ice cream van driver! For us that just painted a lovely picture of childhood summers, the excitement of hearing the chimes and chasing down the street – sometimes barefoot or in our slippers – after something we really wanted. And, of course, the on-the-job perks of unlimited ice-cream to eat throughout the day played a large part in why Rachel wanted this role! We hope Rachel enjoys her trip to Paris, and that she sends us a pic or two from her visit. Congratulations!
Thank you again to everyone who entered – we’ll be launching another competition very soon, so keep a look out!
