To provide an introduction to the work, documentation and responsibilities of a legal secretary. To prepare those who wish to progress to take the OCR Level 2 Legal Text Processing Examination.

Experience of using Windows and Word to a proficient level. Some experience of letter layout.

Lesson 1: The legal office; legal practioners; support staff; role of the legal secretary.
Lesson 2: Where the law comes from; how laws are made; where to find the law.
Lesson 3: The court system; scottish court structure; the alternative dispute resolution.
Lesson 4: Principles for dealing with post; the DX system and legal post; standard document layout including the preparation of draft documents; effective document management; precedents and specialist software.
