A new training centre to help people learn new skills and get back to the world of work has opened in Sittingbourne. The Mayor and Mayoress of Swale, Cllr Ben Stokes and Cllr Sylvia Bennett, cut a ribbon to mark the official opening of the Pitman Training Centre.

The centre, based in Bell House, Bell Road offers a range of courses from updating CVs, Web Design, Book-keeping and IT skills to Shorthand and Secretarial skills for people across Swale, including those who have been made redundant or are unemployed.

Pitman Training also has centres in Maidstone and Chatham. “There are so many people in Swale who need this kind of training and we thought we should open a centre closer to them.” said Marketing Assistant Emily Firth.

She said the Mayor and Mayoress had taken time to speak to a number of students and shown a keen interest in the project. “They were very interested and we were thrilled to have them along.” She added.
