Pitman Training & University of Central Lancashire announce collaboration on management training programme
14/10/2009
Pitman Training, one of the largest providers of career-based training in the UK, has started delivering an innovative range of management training which can lead to a degree at the University of Central Lancashire.
The management training programme, Management Professional, is career-focussed and flexible and learners will receive help and advice from expert tutors. The innovative online programme will appeal to experienced staff being given management responsibility, team leaders and managers. Its flexible learning style allows learners to balance their commitments with studying for nationally recognised qualifications.
The top qualification in the range opens the door to a degree from UCLan - progression will be possible into the final year of either the BA (Hons) in Business and Management or the BA (Hons) in Business Administration. Innovation is also built into UCLan’s approach, as students who opt for the BA (Hons) in Business and Management can study via e-learning, without the need to study on-campus. This provides a flexible study route for people who are in work and are keen to develop skills and knowledge to progress and enhance their career opportunities.
Commenting on this development, Laurence Gillam, Product & Training Principal at Pitman Training Group, said “We have worked closely with UCLan and this partnership is excellent news. Pitman Training has a reputation for career-focussed learning, while UCLan are not only one of the largest universities in the UK but also has a well-established name for innovation and focussing on business needs. For Pitman Training this innovative development allows us to reach new markets”.
David Walters, Associate Director at UCLan’s Lancashire Business School, commented, “This collaboration is a real break-through and builds on the strengths of both partners. We have collaborated with Pitman Training to make this career path possible over a number of years and look forward to welcoming Pitman Training students onto our degree programmes.”
Pitman Training began providing key business skills in 1870. Today, it is unique in being not only the oldest and longest running independent training company, but also for having the largest independent UK network of training centres. There are 100 Pitman Training Centres in the UK, Ireland and internationally with these centres training 50,000 people annually.
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is a ‘modern’ university, created in 1992, but its roots go back to 1828 with the founding of the ‘Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge’. The University offers over 500 undergraduate courses and approximately 250 taught postgraduate programmes. UCLan is playing a significant role in the regeneration of the local and regional economies. The University is a major employer with over 2500 employees, an annual turnover of over £120million and every year it indirectly contributes £300 million to the local economy.
