Welcome!

 

We offer a wide variety of weekly courses in as well as tailored courses on/off site on demand and we are planning various cultural activities designed to enhance your language learning.

 

The Language Zone is also pleased to offer private lessons on a one to one basis.

 

Whilst The Language Zone focuses mainly on French, we do run Spanish classes, so please contact us for more information on other languages.

 

General French Courses

(please contact us for an initial assessment)

 

Level 1 – Bon voyage (Beginner):

 

On completing this level you should be:

able to understand and use a basic range of everyday expressionsrelating to personal details and needs

able to understand and use a few grammatical structures

familiar with the sound and writing systems of the language

aware of how to address people both formally and informally as appropriate

 

Level 2 – En route (Preliminary):

 

On completing this level you should be able to:

use and adapt language relating to a range of everyday matters

maintain a simple conversation; you may need to ask for repetition

write simple text

recognise and use simple forms of present, past and future tenses

 

Level 3 – (Intermediate):

These courses will teach the language through a theme (please see Courses witha Difference).  On completing this level you should be:

comfortable with a range of tenses

able to adapt language in order to maintain a conversation

able to understand simple authentic texts

 

Level 4 – (Advanced):

These courses will teach the language through a theme (please see Courses with a Difference)  On completing this level you should:

be comfortable using and understanding a variety of registers, tenses and more complex structures

be able to communicate confidently and maintain a conversation using a widerange of vocabulary

have some awareness of the culture and society of countries/communities where thelanguage is spoken

 

French Courses with a Difference

These courses will teach the language through a theme and in some cases will still lead to an Asset Languages qualification.  (Please contact us for an initial assessment)

 

Les actualités françaises (French News)

 

Objectives:

Work on authentic documents from French Press (paper/audio/visual):

Discover French Press such as TV news, newspapers, radio and advertising

Discussions on current affaires

Work on specific Press extracts

Compare French/English Press

Look at French society through the press

 

Cinéma Coup de Coeur

 

Objectives:  Learn how to express your opinion using clips from French films describing various situations, from simple exchange of information to more specific and abstract situations. You will learn how to express like/dislike, give advice and query other participants’ opinions.  Film extracts will enable you to discover a range of language idioms, from familiar to more formal, and more grammar grounds will be covered as you go along.

 

Des Livres un Jour

 

Objectives:  Discover some 20th century literature through a variety of authors (Books chosen will depend upon the level of the learners attending the class).  This course is available from Level 3 onwards.

 

Langage et société (Art, Culture & Civilisation)

 

Objectives:  Learn about contemporaneous French society through a variety of documents such as press, radio, TV & cinema, literature and art.  Topics may cover Family, Education, Work, Emigration, Leisure and Art & Literature.  This course is available from Level 3 onwards.

 

A-Z Vivre en France (French Bureaucratie)

 

Objectives:  Understand French administration (civil service, banking), Health and Healthcare, Education, Working in France, Transportation, Housing, Justice and “Etiquette”.

 

Les ateliers littéraires (café Book Club)

 

Objectives:  Read and enjoy literature!  So, if you love books, and you're ready to discuss them...you're in the right place!

 

Help for French – Workshop

 

Objectives: (5/6 children maximum) The children who attend the club can work together and learn from each other, while the tutor involved can see where the children are struggling and give appropriate support to each child.  Please note that this workshop will only help children with their studies in French, it is not meant to replace the teacher’s lesson.  Please contact us if you require individual lesson for your child.
