It was Antonia's Mum who suggested she study for some secretarial qualifications at Pitman Training after leaving University. Antonia's Mum left school at 16 and went to Pitman Training to learn shorthand.
"I really wish I'd done a Pitman Training course before I went to university - it would have been very useful and made things so much easier.
Because the Pitman Training approach to learning is completely flexible, Antonia was able to fit her study around work, so she could continue to make a living.
Pitman also helped me with my CV, applying for jobs, meeting recruitment agencies and preparing for job interviews."
After completing her Pitman Training Diploma two years ago Antonia moved to Bath with her boyfriend and used her new secretarial skills to secure temporary work before applying for a permanent position.
"I was using virtually everything I learned on my diploma so it was extremely beneficial, " Antonia explains. "I worked my way up and am now working as a marketing co-ordinator, managing the production of events and literature. If my Mum hadn't suggested I go to Pitman Training I'm sure that I'd still be living at home and doing bar jobs, with no practical skills to my name."
This story has actually gone full circle as Antonia's Mum has decided to go back to Pitman Training to refresh her own skills.
