They help keep the network safe and secure, through both hardware configuration and end-user training. They often work under the supervision of systems administrators.

Network support engineers typically do some or all of the following:

  • Back up network data
  • Configure security settings or access permissions for authorised users
  • Troubleshoot the network to identify connectivity issues and use diagnostic testing software and equipment
  • Document network support activities
  • Configure wide area network (WAN) or local area network (LAN) routers and other related equipment
  • Install network software, such as security or firewall software
  • Provide end-user support in person and remotely

Self-Funded:

Requesting funding from your employers needn’t be a daunting task. Many employers support and encourage their employees with their professional development and consider it a worthwhile investment to fund any training required.

Funding & Grants:

There may be the opportunity to apply for funded grants that can help towards the cost of training. These include the Skills Development Scotland ITAs and the ReAct programme in Wales. All schemes will have different terms and conditions that will need to be met in order to qualify for a grant and these are managed by each individual centre.
