Elena – Retrains and succeeds in her job search!

Elena W. – August 2015

“I was made redundant early last year. I had always thought it a possibility, but when it actually happened it was quite a shock and took some major adjustments.

I knew I would have to find work, but I felt I needed some training to hone my skills for the job market. I had always enjoyed keyboard work but many of the jobs I saw advertised needed audio typing. I would have to get some training as this was a skill I did not have.

Pitman’s training college came to my rescue! I was thrilled to discover that due to my redundancy I qualified for some free government training. I could hone up my skills on Word and Excel and the college kindly offered me the chance, in addition, to study for and take the audio typing level 2 certificate. I gained distinctions in the exams I took, thanks to Pitman’s comprehensive training packages. Things were surely looking up for me as a prospective employee.

It wasn’t easy getting a job. I had 9 interviews before landing a post as a Secretarial Assistant/Audio Typist for the NHS. By then I’d certainly had lots of interview practise, and I think I’d just about conquered those awful interview nerves. I passed the audio typing test and was offered the job.

I owe a great deal to Pitman Centre in Peterborough for giving me the chance to re-train and hone my keyboard skills. The centre is spacious and a lovely environment to study, with approachable and helpful staff on hand to sort out any problems or questions you have. Well worth looking in to for any keyboard training needs. I would personally recommend the Peterborough Centre. Thank you Pitman Peterborough.”
