After previously studying in Romania and Italy before moving to the UK, Daniel Alex Sthali found himself looking for a new career. He applied for various roles but soon discovered Amazon’s Career Choice programme, which offers people the chance to learn new skills and build a career outside of Amazon. Daniel jumped at this opportunity and, after researching his options, found he could study his dream course with well-respected provider Pitman Training.
“I’ve always had a passion for web design. Ever since I was young, I was fascinated with how websites were created and thought it’d be amazing to find out how I could build one myself. So, as soon as I realised Amazon could help me take the Web Developer Diploma, it was a no-brainer for me,” explained Daniel.
“Because of COVID-19, I did the majority of my learning online. Initially, I wanted to study in centre because I wasn’t very confident and felt I’d get more support if I were there in person. However, I ended up really enjoying how everything was set up online – it was such an easy way of learning. I had the option to go through the course at my own pace, and I could always revisit anything if needed. The course was made up of several smaller modules that I had to complete before taking my final exam.
As well as Pitman’s flexibility on where you choose to work through your course, or how fast you wish to complete it, students also receive help from a subject expert tutor. The subject expert tutor’s job is to provide you with extra help if you need it. So, it doesn’t matter if you choose to learn inside the centre or from the comfort of your home, your subject expert tutor will be on hand to help you whenever you need it.
“Having access to a subject expert tutor was a real benefit to me especially as I was apprehensive about online learning to begin with. We had the option to do group Zoom calls or speak with them one-on-one. In my one-on-one meetings they reviewed my work with me, showed me what I could have done better and explained everything to me in ways that I could understand. I don’t know what I would have done without them to be completely honest. They helped me whenever I got stuck and gave me a push whenever I felt a drop in motivation – they always came back to me straight away whenever I needed them.
“Since taking this course with Pitman, I recently started a new job with Amazon as an FC Associate. However, my end goal is to work in software and development one day – although I do understand it will take me a bit of time to get there. Since taking the course, I’m feeling more confident with different programming languages. I just want to show people that I can do anything I set my mind to. My next step will be to enrol on the Advanced Software & Web Developer Diploma with Pitman.
“I’m trying to change my life for the better by taking these courses, and you could do the same too. My advice for anyone looking to take the Web Developer Diploma with Pitman would be to ask yourself ‘what’s the end goal?’. If you want to work in software and development then pursue that dream and never give up. This course will give you all the support you need whenever you get stuck or find it difficult. I completed the diploma in under a year. And if I can do it, you can too.”
