Clare – From redundant to Assistant at husband’s company

Course completed: Accounting Technician Diploma

During June 2011 I met with Lynne Orton at Pitman Training Sittingbourne to discuss potential courses to increase my learning, after being notified that I was going to be made redundant in August 2011.

We decided that the best course for me would be the Accounting Technician Diploma which would then enable me to support my husband’s business.  In September I contacted Lynne again and I started my course in October. In the first month I completed modules 1-3 manual bookkeeping which refreshed the learning I gained at school when completing my O Levels.  The manual payroll, Sage 50 Accounts and Sage Payroll were all new learning experiences.  With already having Excel Expert qualifications I only needed to complete the assessments to enable me to complete my core courses.  The two electives I decided to take were Introduction to Business Structure and Law and Understanding Business Accounts.   I completed the course in January 2012 with 7 Distinctions and 2 Passes.

I enjoyed completing this course which I have been able to put to good use by starting to support my husband with the completion of his company wages and we are about to start moving over the manual accounts to Sage.

Pitman concept of learning really suited me and I enjoyed coming into the centre at Sittingbourne both for learning and to the friendly atmosphere that the staff created. I appreciated their advice and support.  I would certainly recommend Pitman Training to my friends and colleagues.
