Our basic computer course consists of three disciplines: PC Fundamentals, Internet Fundamentals and Windows 10.

The PC Fundamentals course familiarises trainees with both the hardware and software of a personal computer. This includes basic computer skills staples, specifically guides on sending emails, managing files and browsing the internet.

Separately, our Internet Fundamentals course breaks down the principles of surfing the web. Working with Google Chrome, you will search the internet, download the documents and learn about keeping safe online.

Aims and Objectives

The purpose of this Award is to provide an understanding of the personal computer and its operations, to acquaint learners with the fundamentals of Windows 10 and to provide the essential skills necessary to use the Internet and its various components to its full potential.

Courses Included

PC Fundamentals: This course includes eight modules covering the essentials of the personal computer. The course covers the history of the PC, the system unit, operating systems, working with devices, using application software, file management, creating and viewing multimedia, and computer communications and the Internet.

Windows 10: This course contains seven modules and will provide a comprehensive understanding of this popular operating system. Learners will cover how to get started with Windows 10, explore and customise the Taskbar, learn how to manage multiple windows, work with sound devices and device drivers, learn how to organise files and folders, personalise the Start menu, personalise user accounts, customise settings, add a printer, install fonts, explore the World Wide Web, set up an Internet connection, and more.

Internet Fundamentals: The course is designed for those who recognise the importance of the Internet and want to learn not only the basics, but also how to make effective use of a wide range of Internet resources. Learners will cover the history of the Internet, working with a Web browser (Google Chrome), searching the Web, downloading documents and applications, privacy aspects of the Internet, using Web-based email, social media, blogs, multimedia and HTML, and adding content to a Web page.

Personal Computer Fundamentals

In this course, students learn the components and basic operation of the personal computer. 

The course explores the hardware and software necessary for personal computer use, file management, multimedia options, and more.

Windows 10

This course provides an overview and introduction to the Windows 10 operating system and covers the essential concepts and most commonly used features and functions.

Internet Fundamentals

This course explores the various aspects of the Internet using Google Chrome. Students learn common procedures used to maximise successful use of the Internet and its many features.

Pre-Requisites

There are no pre-requisites other than the ability to type and a willingness to learn.

Wherever possible our training is tailored to your needs. The cost of our training programmes depend on the course(s) you choose and varies according to duration and breadth. Rest assured we have a number of payment options available to ensure the cost of training is affordable and can be worked alongside your other financial commitments. Self-Funded:

Requesting funding from your employers needn’t be a daunting task. Many employers support and encourage their employees with their professional development and consider it a worthwhile investment to fund any training required.

Funding & Grants:

There may be the opportunity to apply for funded grants that can help towards the cost of training. These include the Skills Development Scotland ITAs and the ReAct programme in Wales. All schemes will have different terms and conditions that will need to be met in order to qualify for a grant and these are managed by each individual centre.
