Barbara Booth updates her skills with Pitman Training Peterborough

“I worked as a Legal Secretary to a Senior Partner in the Solicitor’s office for 10 years but then took a career break to raise my son. When 10 years later I returned to the job market, I found it difficult, without having the current skills, to find another job within my profession. I did various temping jobs and then took a position as a house keeper in a local hotel. After being made redundant, I found the job market very competitive and could not find any employment at all. I decided to update my skills and enrolled onto Word Processing and Audio Transcription courses at the Pitman Training Centre in Peterborough.

I loved the centre environment and the very helpful and supportive staff. They were always so welcoming and encouraging. I got help from them with updating my CV and received advice on attending interviews. I finally felt that I was on the right path when I started receiving invitations to interviews. Then I got a call from Pitman Training telling me that they had been approached by a Legal Conveyancing firm looking for an Administrator’s position within their legal department and asked me if I was happy for them to recommend me for the job. That was on a Tuesday and I started working the following Monday. I nearly lost my hope for ever again getting an office job so I could not believe how quickly things have turned around for me from the moment I enrolled at Pitman Training Peterborough – it has changed my life for the better. I now do a job that I enjoy and I have a busy social calendar with social work outings in the evenings.”
